Overview
Nestled in the Great Rift Valley, Lake Manyara National Park is a gem of northern Tanzania, offering diverse landscapes and rich wildlife. Located approximately 126 kilometers southwest of Arusha, this park spans an area of 330 square kilometers, making it one of Tanzania’s smaller but most diverse national parks.
Unique Ecosystems
The park is renowned for its unique mix of ecosystems, ranging from the alkaline soda lake, which covers two-thirds of the park, to dense woodlands, acacia forests, and grassy floodplains.
This diversity supports a rich variety of wildlife and bird species, providing visitors with a unique and immersive safari experience.
Wildlife Spectacle
Lake Manyara National Park is famous for its tree-climbing lions, a rare phenomenon that adds a unique aspect to wildlife viewing. Visitors can also encounter large herds of elephants, known for their approachable nature, and an abundance of other wildlife including buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, and hippos. The park is also home to a variety of antelope species and primates such as baboons and blue monkeys.

The park boasts over 400 bird species, with the lake itself attracting vast flocks of flamingos that create a stunning pink hue along the shore. Other notable species include pelicans, storks, herons, and cormorants, making it an ideal destination for birdwatching year-round.
